What We Do

General Information

As a parish council, Great Boughton is part of the lowest tier of English local government, but also the one closest to its residents. Great Boughton Parish Council covers the three wards of Vicars Cross, Boughton Heath and Caldy Valley with a total of about 4,200 households between them.

There are fifteen councillors elected by voters on the electoral role in the North Ward of Vicars Cross and the South Ward of Great Boughton and Caldy Valley.

We are one of around 9,000 parish and town councils throughout the country.

Responsibilities

Our direct responsibilities include the maintenance and upkeep of the local recreational grounds, the allotments at Pearl Lane, the Vicars Cross Community Centre, jointly managing the Caldy Valley Neighbourhood Centre along with the United Reform and Methodist Churches and the maintenance of other small structures round the parish such as the flower troughs and roundabout at Caldy Valley. We have also provided the defibrillator on the wall on the Vicars Cross Community Centre.

We also represent local opinion in our dealings with other government bodies including Cheshire West and Chester council, and the local Ward Councillors. We are a statutory consultee on planning applications, and these are regularly dealt within our monthly Parish Council Meetings.

We hold Parish Council meetings on the third Monday of every month, except for August, and members of the Public are welcome to attend and bring local concerns to the Councillors and also attend bi-monthly Committee meetings. All details of times, agenda and location of all meetings are published on the 10 local notices boards within our Parish.

We have 3 Committees:

  • Governance Committee
  • Strategic Resources Committee
  • Service Delivery Committee

The Parish Council represents the civil parish of Great Boughton, it has nothing directly to do with church or ecclesiastical parish of Great Boughton.

Events

Great Boughton Council also host a number of events that all Parishers are very welcome to attend such as Great Boughton Awards, Easter Egg Hunt and Christmas Carols in Old Laundry Corner and monthly Wellbeing Walks.

Vicars Cross Community Centre has a full and varied time table, ranging from toddler activities, Community cafes, exercise and dance classes and art activities. They also host ticketed professional acts from across the country which are always well received and sell out occasions.

Allotments

If you are a resident within the Parish of Great Boughton and would like an allotment please contact the Clerk by email clerk@greatbougthonparishcouncil.gov.uk

We operate a waiting list for allotments. Plots are allocated following the order of the date of receipt of the application form and parishioners who do not already have an allotment will take priority over parishioners who already hold a plot.  If you live outside the parish those who live in the parish will take priority.  Please see our Allotment Policy for full details.

Upon receipt of the application form your name would be added to the waiting list, and we will contact you when a plot becomes available. You will be given the opportunity to view the plot before deciding whether to take it on and sign the agreement.
